Frequently asked questions
How do I find out which positions are currently open at IHDA?
In the "Forms" section of this page, there are downloadable job descriptions and requirements for all positions currently open at IHDA.
What is IHDA's recruiting process?
All applicants must apply by submitting an application (available in the Forms section of this page), cover letter, and resume. These items can be emailed to employment@ihda.org or faxed to 312.832.2178. All applications are reviewed and if selected, an interview is scheduled by Human Resources.
Can I apply for more than one open position? Do I have to apply for them separately?
You may apply for more than one position simultaneously. Please indicate which jobs you are interested on your employment application or in your cover letter.
Can I apply for a position if I live outside the Chicago area?
You may apply, but please note that IHDA does not pay relocation costs for any new hires.
Should I call to make sure my application and resume were received?
Due to the high volume of applications we receive for open positions, we respectfully ask that you do not call to follow up. If you are concerned that your items have been lost, please email employment@ihda.org.
What is the building security like at 401 N. Michigan, where IHDA is located?
Building regulations at 401 N. Michigan have recently changed. All visitors are now required to show a state ID at the concierge desk in the lobby and sign in before being allowed up to our suite. Please make sure that you have a state ID with you when you come to visit IHDA, and allow 15 extra minutes before your appointment in case there is a line in the lobby. If you are stuck in the lobby and running late, call 312-836-5200 to let us know. Once you are allowed up to Suite 700, you will need to sign in again at the IHDA reception desk, where you will also check in for your interview.
What is an interview at IHDA like?
It really depends upon the job type. Some job interviews include basic office software testing, or a writing sample. Some interviews are given one-on-one, and some are done with a panel. If you are scheduled for an interview, the HR staff member who contacts you will make the type of interview very clear during the scheduling, and you should feel free to ask any questions that you have.
How long does an interview take?
Plan on scheduling a minimum of two hours in interview. Candidates will spend 1 hour in Human Resources, either testing or creating a writing sample, and 1 hour in the department interview.
