The Affordable Housing Planning and Appeal Act (AHPAA) was signed into law in 2003 to encourage municipalities and counties to incorporate affordable housing into their communities. 49 communities in Illinois have been found to be non-exempt from the law and are required to pass an Affordable Housing Plan by April 1, 2005 and submit the plan to the Illinois Housing Development Authority 60 days after its adoption. IHDA has been named the State-administering agency in the law, and will provide tools and updates to aid non-exempt communities in compliance. All updates will be posted on this website.
